However, this license does not allow you to carry weapons or firearms while on the job or in any other professional capacity. Similarly, the statewide firearm license is valid only while on active duty and does not permit the carrying of firearms outside of work. This license is granted to individuals who are employed in certain professions that require the use of firearms, such as law enforcement officers or security guards. It allows them to carry a firearm while on duty but does not extend to their personal lives or activities outside of work.

It is important to note that these licenses serve distinct purposes and should not be conflated. In the State of Florida, security officers and private investigators are required to complete a 4-hour re-certification course annually during the 2-year period of their license. This re-certification course is mandatory and must be completed to maintain their license. If a security officer or private investigator fails to complete the annual re-certification course within the 2-year period, they will not be able to renew their Statewide Firearms License until they complete the entire 28-hour class G course again.

It’s important to note that there are no exceptions to this requirement. Even if the security officer or private investigator has a valid reason for not completing the re-certification course, they will still have to complete the entire 28-hour class G course again.

Additionally, if a student backdates their 4-hour annual re-certification course, they risk losing their license by the Division of Licensing. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that security officers and private investigators complete the annual re-certification course on time and without fail to avoid any complications in their license renewal process.

It is possible for you to participate in the training sessions in any order that you prefer. However, it is important to note that the division of licensing has a specific requirement for issuing a “G” license. To be eligible for a “G” license, you must already hold a “D” license. It is also worth mentioning that you can submit both the “D” and “G” license applications at the same time. This will save you time and effort while waiting for the processing of your applications.

In case a student fails to pass the range qualifications during their G License training, they will be given an opportunity to come back for follow-up and remedial training on a scheduled date, without incurring any additional charges. However, the student will be required to bear the expenses for range fees, ammunition, and gun rental (if needed) during the makeup training session. It is essential to note that the student will not be eligible for further testing until they complete the remedial training session.
